MLS Power Rankings: Week 6


There was a lot of movement in the MLS after week six, especially in the middle of the pack as some teams try to establish themselves as early contenders for the playoffs.  Chivas USA move out of the basement as they gain their first win on the road  in San Jose while FC Dallas and New England are also the biggest risers. The biggest fallers are Vancouver, San Jose, DC United (all disappointing in losses at home) and Portland (who lost badly on the road).

Last Week:  No Match
Next Week:  Apr 30 at Portland Timbers
Win, Lose or Draw in the CCL, RSL must not overlook the Timbers as they travel to Portland.
 
2. Los Angeles Galaxy (2)
Record:  4W-1L-3D
Last Week: 3-0 Win vs Portland Timbers
Next Week:  May 1 at FC Dallas
The Galaxy seem to be on a roll as they seek revenge from last year’s playoffs against FC Dallas.
 
3. New York Red Bulls (4)
Record:  3W-1L-2D
Last Week:  4-0 Win at DC United
Next Week:  Apr 30 vs Sporting Kansas City
After dropping a game to the Union, the Red Bulls have outscored opponents 7-0 in the last 2 games.
 
4. Philadelphia Union (3)
Record: 3W-1L-1D
Last Week:  No Match
Next Week:  Apr 30 vs San Jose Earthquakes
After a week off the Union will see if they can improve on their scoring.
 
5. Seattle Sounders (6)
Record:  2W-2L-3D
Last Week:  1-0 Win at Colorado Rapids
Next Week:  Apr 30 vs Toronto FC
The Sounders return home and attempt to regroup after losing Zakuani to a possible season ending injury.
 
6. Houston Dynamo (7)
Record:  2W-1L-3D
Last Week:  1-1 Draw at Chicago Fire
Next Week:  Apr 29 vs DC United
Houston will attempt to establish themselves as a leader in the East as they host DCU on national TV.
 
7. Colorado Rapids (5)
Record:  3W-3L-0D
Last Week:  1-0 Loss vs Seattle Sounders
Next Week:  Apr 30 vs Chicago Fire
After feasting on weaker teams, the Rapids have lost 3 straight games to contenders.
 
8. Columbus Crew (11)
Record:  2W-1L-3D
Last Week: 1-1 Draw at Toronto FC
Next Week:  Apr 30 vs Columbus Crew
The Crew are removing their rebuilding label as they are now on a 5 game unbeaten streak.
 
9. FC Dallas (14)
Record:  2W-3L-1D
Last Week:  2-1 Win at Vancouver Whitecaps
Next Week:  May 1 vs LA Galaxy
Losing MVP Ferreira to an ankle injury will be tough and facing the Galaxy will not be an easy first test.
 
10. New England Revolution (15)
Record:  2W-2L-3D
Last Week:  3-2 Win vs Sporting Kansas City
Next Week:  Apr 30 at New England Revolution
With the brand new additions the Revolution may have turned into legitimate playoff contenders.
 
11. Sporting Kansas City (9)
Record: 1W-3L-1D
Last Week:  3-2 Loss at New England Revolution
Next Week:  Apr 30 at New York Red Bulls
Starting the season on a 10 game road trip is tough but SKC can’t be giving up points so easily.
 
12. DC United (8)
Record:  2W-3L-1D
Last Week: 4 -0 Loss vs New York Red Bulls
Next Week:  Apr 29 at Houston Dynamo
After an impressive win in Toronto, DCU returned home and lost badly to New York.
 
13. Chivas USA (18)
Record:  1W-2L-3D
Last Week:  2-1 Win at San Jose Earthquakes
Next Week:  Apr 30 vs New England Revolution
After 3 straight draws Chivas USA were able to pick up their 1st win on road in SJ.
 
14. San Jose Earthquakes (10)
Record:  1W-3L-2D
Last Week:  2-1 Loss vs Chivas USA
Next Week:  Apr 30 at Philadelphia Union
San Jose was unable to protect home field as they drop another to Chivas.
 
15. Toronto FC (17)
Record:  1W-2L-4D
Last Week: 1-1 Draw vs Columbus Crew
Next Week:  Apr 30 at Seattle Sounders
TFC continue their winless streak versus Columbus and now travel back to the west coast.
 
16. Vancouver Whitecaps (12)
Record:  1W-3L-3D
Last Week:  2-1 Loss vs FC Dallas
Next Week:  Apr 30 at Columbus Crew
The Whitecaps lose their first at Empire and now travel to Columbus without DP Eric Hassli.
 
17. Portland Timbers (13)
Record:  2W-3L-1D
Last Week:  3-0 Loss at LA Galaxy
Next Week:  Apr 30 vs Real Salt Lake
The Timbers were unable to carry over momentum from their home games as they lose in LA.
 
18. Chicago Fire (16)
Record:  1W-3L-2D
Last Week:  1-1 Draw vs Houston Dynamo
Next Week:  Apr 30 at Colorado Rapids
Chicago are able to bounce back with a result after 2 losses the week before.
