MLS Power Rankings: Week 5

After week 5 there is very little change at the top and bottom of the MLS as Real Salt Lake remain undefeated and Chivas USA are still winless.  Three teams were the biggest movers this week as both Portland and Columbus showed serious signs of being contenders for the playoffs by beating good opponents at home.  DC United along with New York had the most lop sided wins of the week but DCU accomplished their victory on the road in Toronto which makes them the biggest riser of the week.  The biggest slider was Chicago who lost by two on the road to Portland and then returned home to lose to a shorthanded Galaxy club.

  1. I am a Whitecaps Fan but Portland should be ahead of Vancouver in the power rankings in my opinion. They have managed at least one point on the road and have taken 6 pts of a possible 6 at home while the WC have taken 6 of a possible 12 at home.

  2. I rank based on many factors not just records. In Portland's case the Timbers were great at gaining the 3-0 leads but they let the opponents back in the game. The Dallas game was almost tied if it was not for a post which would have been worse the SKC collapse at Empire.

It takes a lot for a team to have a huge jump. DCU went up 6 spots cause their win on the road was the most impressive. Doesn't matter it was against TFC.

    Thanks for reading.
